Meet The Artist, Journey Within – Eternal Light

THE UNVEILING OF ETERNAL LIGHT

“The longest journey, is the journey within.”
James N. Muir

Internationally recognized allegorical sculptor James N. Muir invites viewers into that quiet space with The Journey Within, a powerful new series of bronze works that guide, reflect, and stir the soul. Now featured at Goldenstein Gallery and in public spaces throughout Sedona and beyond, this collection reimagines timeless spiritual themes in a way that is universal, not religious yet deeply personal.

Eternal Light

A new symbol now graces the Chapel Road roundabout in Sedona Eternal, a bronze and steel sculpture by renowned allegorical artist James N. Muir. Selected by community vote and brought to life with heart and vision, the piece is far more than public art. It’s a compass of meaning, gently illuminating the road we travel both literal and inner.

Set within the silhouette of a Roman-era clay oil lamp, Eternal Light holds a central flame, the universal “eternal light” that has long guided humankind through darkness. The lamp itself rests on a cairn crafted in red rock, echoing ancient trail markers left behind to signify the right path. Surrounding the flame is a Möbius ring, a one-sided, continuous loop that defies linear time. In Muir’s words, this scientific phenomenon becomes a powerful metaphor. Like love, it has no beginning and no end.

Eternal Light anchors one of the city’s most iconic corridors with grace and intention, drawing visitors and locals alike into its quiet presence. It invites reflection. It invites return. It reminds us that we’re not alone on the road.

Next on The Journey Within is Christ of the Holy Cross, a 33-foot bronze sculpture rising inside Sedona’s iconic Chapel of the Holy Cross. Created by James Muir in 2018, the piece radiates compassion, presence, and peace. It stands in spiritual alignment with Eternal Light, the new sculpture at the Chapel Road roundabout that welcomes travelers to the red rocks of Sedona. Facing due east, Eternal Light opens a Mobius ring into a portal, symbolically guiding visitors toward the rising sun and directly to the Chapel. Together, the two works form a sacred axis of stillness and intention, inviting inward reflection beyond religion, and speaking quietly to the soul.
